About Scraps of Lace Photography
Hi, I’m Erin!
Asheville based wedding photographer- though I love to travel!
I’m passionate about creating stunning photos, connecting with people & taking care of our planet.
My love for photography led me to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts, training that helped me bridge technical craft with artistic sensibility. My foundational studies, combined with two decades of experience, mean that I have a deep understanding of photography's formal elements. But we all know that rules are meant to be broken, and that our very favorite photos are often the ones we weren’t ever expecting. My attunement to the perfectly imperfect, serendipitous moments in your special day means that your authentic love gets to shine through – not only in that wedding portrait you’ve always imagined framing, or family portrait you envision on your holiday card, but also in the small moments before and after.
Capturing those moments requires a profound degree of vulnerability, honesty, and playfulness that I cultivate with my subjects. I am more than your photographer. I am your confidante, your cheerleader, and your biggest fan. I also dream with you. My style reflects your vision, whether that’s a fairy tale-inspired wedding, an autumnal mountain elopement, a family sunset hike, engagement photos featuring an epic lightsaber battle or a simple backyard ceremony with your loved ones.
Photography is how I serve the world and how I honor my connection with others. Throughout your lives together, your pictures should light up your heart as you think of why you took your vows and built your family. Great photos capture the essence of what is most ephemeral and most beautiful – the spark between two people as they share from their hearts, the way light falls on a beloved’s face, the private glance in the mirror after putting on the dress or tux – and invite us to connect to that essence within ourselves.
Like Edward Steichen’s portrait of Gloria Swanson, which inspired my business name, the best photos should stop you in your tracks and ignite your imagination, your sense of wonder, and feel authentic.
I look forward to meeting, learning about, & working with you!
Warmly, Erin
What I Believe
My Son
Once your baby is placed in your arms, you have a new north star. My son has been mine for 17 years. Every child is such a unique gift- they bring their own humor, insight, personality quirks. They teach us so much about ourselves, humanity, & make us relook at the world around us. I really love playing & imagining with kids as I take family portraits!
Look For Light
Literally & figuratively I look for light. Light dances, it’s graceful & playful, it sculpts & highlights our best features. When things seem dark, it’s important to look for the light. The smallest shaft of light across a hardwood floor, or the stunning colors of sunset falling behind these mountains can bring perspective and hope.
You Decide
Life happens but we get to decide what we learn, how we label what happens, what we hold onto, and what we let go of. We have the final word on every chapter of our lives.
Love > Everything
Inclusion can be a buzzword, but for me it’s a way of life. I celebrate love in all its forms. I honor and see the many ways beauty shines, and my goal is for my clients to see that beauty in themselves and their loved ones. Whether you need a couples photographer for a special session, want to capture this season in your family’s life, are planning to propose, or are looking for an Asheville-based wedding photographer, I’m here for you.
